Emily Blincoe was born and raised in Austin, Texas. She finds inspiration in faces, new places, shapes, colors, light and quiet little moments. Most days you can find her wandering in the tall grass somewhere between Austin and Nashville with her dog, Eleanor.
Blincoe takes a wide range of photographs including portraits, arrangements and commissioned work. I will be focussing on studying and recreating her photographic arrangements. Emily Blincoe started making arrangements many years ago by accident. She gathered some things from around her house and put them all in a grid arrangement. A year later she moved on to food, then sweets. This is the longest running series she has ever done. |
Eggs.
This arrangement of eggs, by photographer Emily Blincoe, blends together well as they go from a darker shade (brown) to a lighter shade (white) with plenty of colours in between which help the image merge and not look chunky. The image flows. |
Pretzels.
This photograph, by Emily Blincoe, is of many different coloured pretzels. The diagonal stripes of pretzels engages the viewer because the composition is very aesthetically pleasing. This arrangement has good presentation due to the thought going into the positioning of the pretzels and use of different colours. |
Citrus.
This large arrangement, by Emily Blincoe, is of mixed citrus fruits, like Mandarin, Grapefruit and Oranges stands out due its wide array of vibrant colours against the black background. The image blends together well because the colours flow and merge into each other. |
FEATHERS.
This photo, taken by photographer Emily Blincoe, has a simple, faded duck - egg green background which makes the viewer put their full attention and focus on the main objects in the image - the feathers. They vary in size and colour and lack symetry but the photograph still looks clean and effective. The arrangement theme is something that Blincoe enjoys doing. |
ESSENTIALS.
This arrangement of bathroom essentials was taken by Emily Blincoe. It shows a variety of items we use daily. For example, there are nail clippers, files, soaps and a comb. This photo was taken from above so everything can be seen clearly. The arrangement has a clean look due to its white background and consistent theme throughout. This means that all of the objects in the image are from the same theme. |
NUTS.
Emily Blincoe's arrangement of nuts is effective due to its interesting layout and use of colour. The different coloured nuts stand out against the midnight blue background. The colours are similar but different to each other. The large variety of nuts also engages the viewer bacause there are so many unique ones. |
